Meet Sonya and Robin, the creators behind KAKAO Magazine.

What started as a passion project in Peru with the documentary, Piura Blanco Cacao,  slowly turned into a fascination for exploring and learning about chocolate. We simply love to connect with people in the industry and tell their stories.

Sonya is an award winning photographer with food in close focus and a keen eye for perfect lighting. She studied analogue photography at Oxford University in the 80s and converted to digital in the early 2000s. Having worked in graphic design in London and for major magazine publications in Germany, it was only a matter of time until launching her own publication.

The chocoholic of the two, Robin, makes bean-to-bar chocolate in-between editing his film projects. He studied film in Vancouver and developed an affinity with chocolate after working in the coffee industry, and making a documentary about coffee in Myanmar.

Volume One London is their first issue and explores the chocolate wonders of the British capital. Meet makers, chefs, chocolatiers, get up close with the history of cacao in London and simply enjoy the journey of chocolate in a city so far detached from a cacao plantation this issue would seem impossible to put together.
